27 nov. 2022The Mazovian Museum houses the largest collection of art nouveau in Poland and is located in the renovated Secession building on Tumska Street, the town's main pedestrian zone.
In its Art Nouveau edifice, the Masovian Museum in Plock presents its regular exhibition of art of the turn of the 20th century. The exhibition includes: interior designs and arrangements typical for middle-class families, a gallery of paintings and sculptures of Young Poland, a gallery of artistic handicraft (ceramics and glassware). The works of Wyspianski, Wyczötkowski, Laszczka, and Lalique are among the valuable exhibits in the museum. Apart from beautifully reconstructed interiors (dining room, parlour, and boudoir) and the impressive collection of tableware, cutlery, and glassware, new exhibits enrich the art deco collection every year. In the adjacent building, a multimedia exhibit 'Ten Centuries of Ptock" presents 1000 years of rich Ptock's history. The students discover the story of Plock from prehistoric time to nowdays and a big part about the 20thcentury. A Polish sculptor and painter, Bolestaw Biegas (Biegalski) was born in 1877 in the village of Koziczyn,Mazovia, central Poland. Thanks to the support of some people who noticed his extraordinary talent quite early, Biegas began his studies at the Academy. After receiving a scholarship from the Society for the Encouragement of Fine Arts in Warsaw, he went to Paris, where he lived and worked until the end of his life. There, he became widely known among French artists and critics. He died in 1954. Bolestaw Biegas is representative of the Symbolist-Art Nouveau trend in art. He preserved the individual form of his ouvre, which still amazes art lovers with its exceptional diversity and the richness of its subject matter.
The students made the link with the work they had to do during the week about the cultural heritage of Plock.
