SW22 Visit to Stockholm and Skansen open air museum

The students caught the bus near to the RinmanGymnaniest high school in the morning. An hour and half later, we arrived at Stockholm. Skansen is the world's oldest open-air museum, founded in 1891. Students discover Sweden's history at houses and farmsteads, and through the customs and traditions of everyday life and celebrations. This is a place where Easter, Midsummer and Christmas are celebrated every year. The park has gardens that you can wander through, and there are zoo enclosures with Nordic wild animals and farms with local livestock breeds. Students saw pets, monkeys, reptiles and other small animals.

The Baltic Sea Science Center is a learning centre with aquariums and exhibitions about the Baltic Sea, and

the Skansen Aquarium is home to exotic species. It made our students aware with the fragility of nature’s beauties and the necessity to preserve our ocean’s wildlife. 

We catch the bus to visit the city centre. After parking near to the Royal Palace, a free time was given to the students to explore the city and discover the main Swedish brands in order to buy some gifts for their families in the medieval streets and alleys of the old town. They follow their penfriends in a tour which shows them different aspects at different times in its history and learn about the water all around which covers a big part of the city. The Royal Palace, also known as the Stockholm Palace is the heart of Stockholm. It is the official home of the Swedish monarch, where King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia once resided. The oldest part of Stockholm is also the most beautiful. Gamla Stan (literally, Old Town) sits at the very centre of the modern city but still oozes medieval charm. Surrounded by water on all sides. It was here that in 1252, the Swedish statesman Birger Jarl founded the capital city of Stockholm.

This trip experience enables the students to create links by visiting together while they were visting the Park and to be more aware about the Baltic sea, old traditions and Swedish buildings and to discover the capital
