IR23 Manual workshop: create a flag holder
29 mars 2023Students in pairs were in a carpentry workshop. The outcome of the activity a flag holder photo made of wood and plexiglass.
For this purpose, the pupils were led to carry out a “transfer” of the Irish map previously printed on a sheet after marking the base.
This was done using carbon paper (with dark side down on blue paper) on the wooden plate. They had to check if that wastransfered before removing. Then the wooden part was cut and sanded after tracing the outside of your frame.
All of this is accomplished using machine tools that pupils have manipulated.
Then the plexiglass plate was pierced and folded to receive the future photo. These folds were made possible by the use of a heating wire. Finally, wooden supports were added to place the flags by drilling 2 pilot holes into the wood frame. All that remained was the final assembly.
For the first time french students were allowed to work with machines during manual workshop. Step by step the instructions weregiven and the students were so happy to create by themselves this object by working wood and plexiglass.
