IT23 Olympic games research
01 avr. 2023The students are divided into pairs and choose a research topic by lot. The work takes place over 3 hours (2 times 1 hour 30 minutes). The research topics are varied and relate to the Olympic Games: the Olympic Games in the movies, women in the Olympic Games, the history of the most important Olympic Games, boycotts of the Olympic Games, the Winter Olympic Games, the Paralympic Games and the history of Olympic posters. Each pair is asked to discover one aspect of the rich and varied history of the Olympic Games. The history of the Olympic Games is a long story, combining sport, geopolitics and citizenship.
The students carry out the research in a computer room and have to present their oral work at the end of the week. They have to search the Internet for the information they need. Then they have to select it, translate it into English and create two documents. The first is a slide show of their research and the second is the text they have to recite orally. This work does not only rely on the ability to do research on the Internet but also highlights the pupils' creativity, their ability to select and prioritize information and above all to summarize it.
Once this double work has been done, the students practice for their oral exams. They can adjust and modify their text so that they are more comfortable with their oral presentation.
The students developed research skills and increased their confidence as they spoke in English in front of others.
