FR24 CC Cine Debate – Movie
11 nov. 2024An educational initiative leveraged the power of film to engage students with critical environmental issues. Students gathered at Studio 43 to watch the movie "How to Blow a Pipeline," an environmentalist action thriller. The intention behind showing thisfilm was to motivate and inspire students by the main character’s attitude and fight, believing that watching such a movie couldincrease their self-motivation to be solid and inflexible in dealing with problems.
Beyond mere entertainment, this film provided a different view and perspective on the complex issues it presented. Following the screening, a cultural mediator facilitated a debate based on the film, focusing on the students' reactions, reflections, and opinions. This provided an invaluable platform for students to express their feelings and thoughts after experiencing the eco-thriller. The discussions delved into significant themes, prompting students to reflect on the problem of activism versus terrorism, to considerthe legitimacy of extreme action during the climate crisis, and to examine the question of commitment and radicalization withinthe environmental movement. This approach demonstrated how cinema can serve as a powerful tool for fostering critical thinkingand sparking meaningful dialogue on pressing societal challenges.
The students were able to interact with the speaker, which they did with spontaneity and commitment, in different forms : requests for clarification, requests for concrete examples, development of personal points of view on certain situations mentioned in the presentations, proposals for action
The students are aware of the ecological emergency. They reflected on the solution to the problem.
They get the knowledge of the difference between the activism and terrorism.
