FR23 CC - Workshop in the dunes
12 nov. 2023The students were divided in three groups. The first one was supposed to discover the biodiversity of the nature reservein Dunkirk’s dunes. After the teacher’s presentation about flore and faune of dunes the students had to fill in the questionnaire on the internet using those informations. They could observe the nature and read the panels aboutDunkirk’s dunes placed nearby the blockhouses. They had the oportunity see some organisms or plants under the microscope. The second one was playing different games on the beach.
In order to discover more information about the dunes students were given a link to a „geocaching” app created by the maths teacher. They worked in groups to find the way by answering the questions about biodiversity of the area.
The students worked on biodiversity in their immediate environment, the high school park and the Dune Dewulf dune massif. The two outings allowed them to become aware of this biodiversity. Thanks to the use of the application theywere able to increase their knowledge of the rich diversity of the plant kingdom.
They were able to present a sample using a herbarium and a photographic exhibition.
During the outing in the dune, they acquired knowledge about the diversity of ecosystems and the biodiversity withinecosystems. They learned that the functioning of ecosystems is based on the relationships between the differentspecies that live there, including humans.
Man is a stakeholder in his ecosystem and depends on almost all other species.
They were able to understand that maintaining biodiversity is a necessity for the survival of the human species on Earth. Hence the need for awareness and the implementation of different means to preserve it.
This game got the students moving, encouraged them to reach out to others and to discover more personal aspects of themselves. The students get to know each other better after this game and are ready to work together for futureworkshops. Students were familiar with the app. They solved the problem together , they understand the sense of collaboration. The students know the fauna and flore of Dunkirk’s dunes. They are aware of thr biodiversity.
