LC Sustainable development issues on several scales
10 oct. 2023This work is done for ErasmusDays. Students are divided into groups of 3 or 4, and each group studies one aspect of the challenges of sustainable development through a theme and on several scales (local scale / Dunkirk, national scale / France, European scale). The themes are varied: energy, the fight against waste, the fight against over-consumption, transport, endangered oceans, flora and fauna, construction, ports, sports, dunes... Each theme covers an aspect of sustainable development and proposes solutions for preserving the planet. The work is carried out in several stages. The first is a research phase in the computer room. Students look for information (texts, images, figures, etc.) on their theme. Pupils have to gather information, sort it, synthesize it and organize it into one or more texts. The, they create a dynamic poster: a lapbook. This step enables students to show off their creative side. They are free to turn in a production as long as it includes text, vocabulary, figures and images with a caption. The poster should be made up of a combination of colored card stock and internal collages (cut-out shapes that open, accordions that unfold, wheels that turn, interlocking card pockets, etc.) presenting the theme studied. The final stage is the oral phase. Students take it in turns to appear before the other students, and in just a few minutes explain the theme of their work and the results of their research. They also show their dynamic creation.
Students learned more about aspects of sustainable development. They were able to carry out computer research and organize it into an artistic poster. They also developed oral skills and gained confidence. The students became aware of their role in the fight against climate change as citizens of tomorrow.
