SP23 Workshop “Without limits”
01 juin 2023Thanks to videos and images, the guide tries to see how much the students know about paralympic games, if they know the difference between Paralympics and Especial Games and if they know the different types of disabilities. After a few images of the 1992 Paralympic Games mascot a definition of disability is given : which can affect the physical, sensory, mental and cerebral. There are ordinary, adapted and inclusive sports. The first Paralympic competition was for the deaf: from 1924, they organized their own competitions because they were marginalized. Ludwig Guttman, who had fled Nazi Germany for the United Kingdom and believed in the importance of sport to heal athletes who had taken part in the war: that's how the Paralympics began. The first edition was held in Rome in 1960.
After that, the students play goalball. This sport was invented by World War II veterans. Raised lines on the ground are used to orient players.
Thanks to this activity, the students could discover an inclusive game that they didn’t know before. They also understoodthe difficulty of the paralympic games.
