IR24 CAE - Wexford : Tour of Opera house

The guide began by explaining to the students the reasons for the existence of a national opera house in a town the size of Wexford. The origin of this story, 80 years ago, is the creation of an opera festival in Wexford by a doctorpassionate about this art, John Walsh. His bust is present in the entrance

The current building was built in 2008. The company ARUP was called upon to build the Oslo and Copenhagen operahouses in 2004, renowned for having the best acoustics in the world. 

This acoustic quality is linked to the use of American black walnut wood for the floors, walls, stairs and ceilings. The guide, who is passionate about opera and happy to give the tour in French, then insisted on the opera industry. He also distributed a document to students presenting the 11 professions linked to opera. The students were then given a complete tour behind the scenes and the two performance halls .

The wiows of the rehearsal rooms are quadruple glazed, blocking all vibrations and external noise. It is possible to modify the acoustics according to the needs of the show. The guide then spoke to the students about the functioningof the festival which is based on the call for volunteers. This allows the population of Wexford to be involved and the price of entry tickets to be reduced.
