PL24 PSLL - Workshop in the zoo

Polish and French students go to Plock Zoo. Located in a unique and picturesque area, it is a public place of active recreation for the residents of Płock and the Mazovian Voivodeship. The natural environment of the high Vistula escarpment creates right conditions for breeding wild animals, including the rarest species presented in a few zoos. The aim is to convey to the public the idea of protecting wild animal species, which are dying out more often than not because of the limitation of their natural habitats, the progressive pollution of the natural environment, as well as poaching and the excessive exploitation of natural resources. Many animal species, completely exterminated in the wild, have been saved by breeding in zoos. The zoo breeds 580 species of animal, including many precious specimens rarely found in other gardens. They receive many of them as part of breeding programmes for endangered species and through their membership of the European Association of Zoos and Aquariums (EAZA). Since 2002, Płock Zoo has been a member of the World Organisation of Zoos and Aquariums - WAZA (World Association of Zoos and Aquariums). The workshop in the zoo, led by two facilitators, focuses on reptiles. The characteristics of the group and a review of the reptiles bred at the PłockZOO are listed, and the students are given the opportunity to touch live animals (snake, lizard, tortoise). After the workshop, the students are free to visit the entire zoo.

The students have a great time together in the zoo. The guide gives them information about the animals and their environment. They become aware that the progress of civilisation, the growth of the human population and all its consequences - pollution, the degradation and loss of the natural environment and the excessive exploitation of natural resources - are the main causes of the loss of biodiversity on our planet.
