GR24 CC City Tour in Veria

During the city tour in Veria, picturesque greek town, offers to our students a wonderful blend of history, culture, and charm presented by the greek teachers. Nestled at the foot of the Vermio Mountains, Veria is known for its richByzantine and Ottoman heritage. The city is often overlooked by tourists, which makes it feel authentic and peaceful.

Walking through Veria feels like stepping back in time. We visited the old quarter, known as the Jewish Quarter (Barbouta), which is especially enchanting. Narrow cobblestone streets wind between beautifully preserved stone houses with wooden balconies. The sound of our voices echoes in these quiet alleys.

As we stroll through the city, we’ll pass small chapels, colorful doors, and flower pots hanging on walls. The Byzantine churches, over 50 of them, speak to Veria’s deep religious past. One of the most impressive is the Church of Saint Paul, said to be where the Apostle Paul once preached. We took time to go inside to have some explanations.

Local shops and cafés invite to pause and enjoy a Greek coffee or a sweet treat like revani. Time slows down here, and the people are warm and welcoming. The Karachmetova Mosque, Ottoman mansions, and the public library addeven more cultural depth to our walk.

Veria is a hidden gem where every corner holds a story, and every little street invites you to explore further.
In spring and summer, jasmine and bougainvillea usually perfume the air as you wander. We hear church bells in the distance, blending with the peaceful hum of daily life. Every step in Veria connects to centuries of tradition, faith, and resilience and it was a great moment all together.

Students discover the city and know the important places. The students had a nice walk all together in a cheerful mood. It was the occasion to discover the old city and extensions by taking photos at the highlights.
