This activity helps students understand global warming as a major challenge for our planet and for human rights.

They explore how climate change affects people’s daily lives. They work together in English as a competition of ideas from their personal experiences and ideas through discussions, and interesting different point of views to better understand the causes, consequences, and possible solutions to global warming. They take part in an interactive workshop on global warming, divided into several stages.

The platform used is https://padlet.com/TheScienceProf/brainstorming-climate-change-h4yoqkqu2wvjdc6f . Students answer to questions online about climate change (greenhouse gases, CO₂, weather events, rising sea levels, animals etc.) to check and share what they know.

1. Write the name of your TEAM and the names of the TEAM MEMBERS (all members!)

Post the first image and a motto that represents what comes to your mind when you hear about climate change

2. Climate change: scientific causes: What are the main causes of climate change? Is current climate change mainly due to natural or anthropogenic factors?

3. Climate change: scientific effects: What are the main consequences of current climate change?

4. Eco dilemma: What would you choose? Give up all frozen food OR give up all fast food? // Wear only secondhand clothes OR never buy synthetic fabrics again? Give up home heating all winter OR refuse all online shopping? Now create your own eco-dilemma for the class!

5. Local Impacts: Climate change and our everyday life. Is climate change having an impact on your region or city? (heatwaves, drought, pollution, etc.?) Share one cool eco-initiative or environmental idea from your country, school or personal initiative.

6. Are we doing enough? Solutions and innovation: Calculate your Ecological Footprint: https://www.footprintcalculator.org/home/en

Discuss the results with your team: How can we reduce our contribution to climate change?

Cause & effect gallery walk: Key ideas: industry, transport, agriculture, energy), its impacts (heatwaves, floods, drought, climate refugees.
Solutions lab: they imagine realistic solutions at three levels: individual actions (daily habits), school/community projects, and political decisions at national or European level. The workshop is dynamic, participative, with visual supports, creativity to make a complex issue easier to understand.
